University Life

Hey, I know I havn't posted in ages, but a friend asked me how a certain evening out went on my facebook profile, and I realised it exemplified exactly what residential university life is about. My friend Kev finished his thesis, and a fair few of us finished our exams. We walked into Civic to the Kremlin Bar. It's a bar specialising in Russian and Polish vodkas. It's really a shame my friend Albert couldn't come - he's Polish and had an exam the next morning. So yeah, Kremlin Bar was awesome. Had some extremely nice vodka, then we went for a long walk around the lake. We ended up singing "The Kev Musical" at the tops of our voices, Tristan and Kim played shadow sex using spotlights visble across the lake, we got kicked off the national museum grounds by security, and ended up doing the YMCA on an overpass at 1am. A rather amusing night, really. Especially considering only Kev was drunk. I'd had one drink, Iain had none, and Tristan and Kim were tipsy, but not really drunk. Kev was pissed as a newt. It was an extremely enjoyable evening :D. I love living in a college at university!

News

Well, it's a new post. I havn't blogged for ages I know. Anyway, a few interesting things are happening atm so I thought I'd post.

I have finally finished watching both Angel and Coupling. Loved them both to bits. I think Angel was a better continuation than Buffy after season 3. I was sad when Fred died, but Illyria is an awesome character. Wesley's death was so sad! Coupling had the perfect ending, but I wish Jeff could have come back.

It is holidays - I came back up to Sydney on Good Friday. I was planning on going back to college on saturday, but now I'm staying the whole time as we decided to take two cars to Berry.
Yes, I'm going to Berry with my family - we're taking two cars so I havta drive down.

It is almost my birthday - I'm 19 on April 12th. Very excited. Having a little party. Hmmn that's about all my news ...

Here's the SMH article

"
The alert comes after a huge thunderstorm with severe hail battered Canberra overnight, with hundreds of people calling for emergency help, including drivers trapped in their cars by flash floods.
Schools, universities and government departments have been forced to shut this morning because of the storm.
Heavy rain began falling in the capital city from 9pm as the first of two thunderstorms made its way across the ACT.
But it was the second storm, which senior Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Neale Fraser described as a "supercell thunderstorm", that wreaked havoc across the territory until about 11pm.
"It really intensified as it came into the ACT [with] very intense rainfall and lots of hail," Mr Fraser said.
"It was a huge thunderstorm."
Hail, with stones more than two centimetres in diameter, fell for about 40 minutes, blocking drains and causing flash flooding on major roads.
Susan Fisher, who lives in Reid, said she had never seen anything like it.
"We had severe hail for about 40 minutes. The carport at the front of the house flooded, which ultimately flooded the house. Thank God we have tiles. "We ended up having to put a hole in the ceiling to let the water drain away onto the floor so that the entire ceiling didn't come down."
Russell Cameron, a spokesman for the ACT Emergency Services Agency, said the State Emergency Service received 115 calls and the Fire Brigades received more than 200 calls.
There were no reports of storm-related injuries, he said.
Flash flooding had some drivers in a panic, he said. The drivers had pulled over to the side of the road when the heavy rain began, but flooding quickly occurred, trapping them in their cars.
"The water just started coming up around the wheels and gradually got up to the bottom of the doors, [high] enough for them to be worrying about stepping out into the fast-moving water," he said.
"A lot of people were assisted from their cars after fast moving water had them pinned in their cars. Members of the Fire Brigades went from car to car helping people out."
Mr Cameron said emergency services teams worked overnight to remove hail from the road.
"The hail seemed to compact on the roads. Road maintenance has been working all night to clear the ice off the roads, which is a really bizarre thing to be happening around this time of the year."
The Australian National University is shut today as is the exclusive private school Canberra Grammar along with Campbell High, sections of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and the National Health and Medical Research Council."

Hail Storm

You guys hear about the crazy hail storm in Canberra a few weeks ago? We missed class for 3 days, placed flooded etc. This is the CNN report:

"CANBERRA, Australia (Reuters) -- A freak summer hail storm left ice blanketed across large parts of Australia's drought-hit capital Canberra on Wednesday, forcing some businesses and government departments to close due to storm and flood damage.
While thunder storms are common in Canberra in the last month of summer, the rare hail storm left the national capital resembling snow-bound cities in the United States, with tractors sent out to clear ice from busy roads.
The hail storm left meter-deep ice in parts of Canberra's central business district, and caused flooding and damage in over 60 buildings at the nearby Australian National University and the city's main shopping center, which were closed for the day.
"I can't remember the last time we've actually received hail that has piled up on the roads in such a large amount," Owen Offler from Australia's Bureau of Meteorology told Reuters.
The storm hit on the last day of a hot summer in Australia, much of which is enduring its sixth year of drought, and in a city where authorities have imposed strict restrictions on household water use due to low water levels in its reservoirs.
Residents reported up to 70 millimeters (2.7 inches) of rain in an hour during the overnight storm, which also forced the evacuation of the top floor of the city's main police station.
More storms are forecast for the last day of Australia's summer in Canberra, but Offler said the city had already set a new record for the most thunder storms recorded in a single month, with 14 so far in February."

New Blogger

Oooh new blogger. Strange. Very Strange. What is the point? Seems rather odd to change blogger, I mean it seemed to work great before... What are the changes?

I'm kinda nervous about going back to Canberra. There are several reasons for this:

* I'm scared I'm going to screw up my job
* I'm going to miss my family
* I'm going to miss my Sydney friends
* I'm worried it won't be a good floor. 1B was a fantastic floor to live on, but people have moved, the whole floor ambience and feel will have changed, and I hope it is still good...
